Do I have to be an APIC member in order to attend the Conference?

No.

Can I join APIC and register for the Conference at the same time?

Yes.  The APIC member registration fee applies when you join APIC during the registration process.

Does APIC 2008 offer review courses for certification?




Yes. At APIC 2008, the Certification Review Course with be offered over a span of two days,  June 14-15, 2008, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

This course is designed to supplement personal study and provide a review of the basic issues, including microbes, statistical analysis, and techniques necessary for qualified infection control program management. An in-depth overview of the major content areas tested in the Infection Control Certification exam will be provided. This two-day prep course is intended for individuals with at least 2 years of infection control experience and who are seeking certification in infection control. Time will be provided for questions as well as practice tests to enhance attendees’ educational experience. NOTE: This course will not be recorded

Who Should attend APIC 2008?

 

Health care professionals, including ICPs, quality and patient safety professionals, epidemiologists, physicians, nurses, microbiologists, clinical pathologists, laboratory technologists and public health practitioners and other health care professionals whose responsibilities include the prevention of infection.

  • Poster Presentations for three full days, Monday, June 16 through Wednesday, June 18.  More time has been allocated to allow you to view the many outstanding posters submitted by your peers in infection prevention and control. To meet new ANCC requirements, posters have been removed from the exhibit hall allowing you to access and view them for a longer time period.

What is the maximum number of continuing education hours can I obtain at APIC 2008?

Continuing Education Credit

The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s

Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).

 

Contact Hours

One contact hour = 60 minutes.

The maximum number of contact hours for this activity is based on 1275 minutes divided by 60. APIC is approved for providing continuing nursing education by the California Board of Nursing, provider number CEP 7146. The maximum number of nursing contact hours that can be earned for this conference is 21.25. Pre-conference workshops provide between 7.5 and 3.5 contact hours, depending on the length of the pre-conference attended. This educational activity is recognized by the American Society for Clinical Pathology as meeting the criteria for 21.25 hours of CMLE credit. ASCP CMLE credit hours are acceptable to meet the continuing education requirement for the ASCP Board of Registry Certification Maintenance Program.

Will there be handouts available?

Yes, but only for the presentations for which APIC had received permission from the speaker to distribute. Handouts are available only to registrants. They will be available for download in advance of the conference; distributed onsite via a CD-Rom; download after the conference (updated presentations).

Pre-conference handouts are not included and are only available to people that register to participate in pre-conference sessions.
